In addition to satisfying other criteria, athletes wishing to represent Bermuda in any overseas festival, should meet the qualifying standard set for their discipline(s) at official meets, which are held under IAAF Rules.

The Bermuda Track And Field Association has chosen to send teams of individuals, who have satisfied the criteria set, to the following events in 2005:

CARIFTA Games

The CARIFTA Games are held every year over the Easter
Holiday and caters to two age groups – Under 17 years and Under 20 years. This competition, which is normally held in a different Caribbean country on a rotational basis each year, gives young athletes an opportunity to compete against top competitors in the region. It also affords them exposure to University and College Athletic Coaches who scout for talent to recruit for their institutions and the opportunity to network and share experiences with athletes from other countries. This competition is the first major step in competing at an international level and the experience gained is immeasurable. Guadeloupe will be the host country in 2006.

CAC Championships
2005 CAC Standards

The Central American and Caribbean Senior Championships are held on alternate years – the last championship being held in Grenada in July 2003.

This event rotates among countries within the Central American and Caribbean region every two years and gives competitors from Bermuda exposure to top athletes in the Central American region in addition to the Caribbean. The qualifying standards are set in accordance with the level of competition at the CAC Senior Championships. This event will be held in Bahamas in July 2005 and those who participate, will have satisfied a mandatory requirement to qualify for the 2005 IAAF World Outdoor Championships set by the IAAF. The qualifying standards for both the CAC Senior Championships and the CARIFTA Games are set by The Bermuda Track And Field Association.

IAAF World Youth Championships Standards

The IAAF World Outdoor Championships are held every two (2) years at different locations around the world, under the auspices of the IAAF. The IAAF sets the qualifying standard for this Championship. This year’s competition will be held in August 2005 in Helsinki, Finland.

The IAAF World Youth Championships in Athletics, which takes place every two years, will he held for the fourth time in 2005. This competition caters to athletes who are age 15 years, 16 years and 17 years in the year of competition. Athletes wishing to participate should, in addition to meeting the qualifying standard, have competed in either the CARIFTA Games or the 2004 CAC Junior Championships.

2005 Jr. Pan Am Championships Standards

The Pan American Junior Championships are held every two (2) years at different locations in North, South or Central America and caters to junior athletes under the age of twenty years.

This year the competition will be held in Windsor, Ontario, Canada from July 29 to July 31, 2005.

Commonwealth Games 2006
2006 Commonwealth Games Standards

The Commonwealth Games are held every four years under the umbrella of the Bermuda Olympic Association. The 2006 event will be held in Melbourne, Australia from March15 - March 26, 2006.  This competition is open only to athletes from all countries in the Commonwealth who compete for honours in their respective sports.  The qualifying deadline for the games has been set for January 29, 2006.
